Russian government customers may be required to purchase electric vehicles and cars powered by natural gas instead of traditional vehicles with gasoline and diesel engines. The relevant draft government decree is posted on the portal of regulatory legal acts.
A document prepared by the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation proposes to amend two current regulations governing public procurement. The new version establishes the priority of purchasing gas-powered vehicles and electric vehicles, and the use of vehicles with internal combustion engines is allowed only if there are reasonable reasons.
According to the amendments to Resolution No. 926, the purchase of cars with gasoline and diesel engines will be possible only if it is impossible to purchase vehicles using alternative fuels, for example, due to the lack of the necessary refueling or charging infrastructure.
Another change concerns Resolution No. 927, which establishes requirements for prices of goods. It proposes to allow federal government agencies to adjust marginal prices for cars based on the consumer price index, but not higher than the official data from Rosstat.
If the resolution is adopted, the new rules will enter into force on May 1 of this year.
